The ERASMUS+ BIP field trip “Know your landscape, know your soils” focused on understanding the relationship between landscapes and soil formation. It was organised by University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts, Geography Department. The programme was coordinated by Blaž Repe. The field trip brought together students and researchers from several European universities. Participants explored how geology, climate, vegetation, and land use influence soil development. The programme combined classroom learning with practical outdoor field investigations. Students examined soil profiles directly in different landscape settings. Field observations helped participants recognise soil horizons, texture, colour, and structure. The trip highlighted the importance of soils for agriculture, ecosystems, and environmental management. Discussions focused on sustainable land use and soil conservation practices across Europe.

  • Nicolaus Copernicus University participated through the contribution of Marcin Świtoniak.
  • Estonian University of Life Sciences was represented by Endla Reintam.
  • Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies joined with Ieva Erdberga.
  • Poznań University of Life Sciences contributed through Łukasz Mendyk.
  • Technical University Braunschweig participated with Magdalena Sut-Lohmann.
  • Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg was represented by Holger Lohse.

The international collaboration encouraged intercultural exchange and scientific cooperation. Students compared soil characteristics and landscape processes from different European regions. The programme strengthened practical skills in soil description, mapping, and interpretation. Overall, the field trip promoted a deeper understanding of landscapes, soils, and sustainable environmental management.
